Boston Globe Critic’s Pick & Cape Cod Times

Both the Boston Globe and the Cape Cod Times recently featured the Rice Polak Gallery’s new, virtual exhibition Making Waves: Artists Speak Out. The writers captures the importance of this show within this  political, social and historical moment. Check out the articles for more information!

Here is an excerpt from the Boston Globe:

“The urgency of the moment spurred gallerist Marla Rice to mount her Provincetown gallery’s first virtual show, in which more than 40 creators contemplate politics, the pandemic, racial and social justice, and the dizzying spin of it all. The roster includes singer-songwriter Patty Larkin and composer and lyricist Michael Sottile along with artists Daphne Confar, Willie Little, and Julie Levesque.”

And an excerpt from the Cape Cod Times:

“The imagery received is “incredible” and wide-ranging, “from a picture of Donald Trump with blood on his hands to somebody’s gorgeous, quiet, angelic backyard where they spent the whole winter,” Rice says. “There are pieces that are unbelievably hopeful, and there are pieces that are just stressing. I love that there’s not any one thing, there’s a real range of emotions, and it’s all done by really good artists.”

The exhibit includes paintings, photography, sculpture, video and even music.  Rice also required that each artist write a statement on their work and feelings; some were two lines, some two pages. “Most really go deep, and that’s a beautiful thing,” she says.”
