Emmanuel Gillespie is a visual artist whose work centers on the Black experience throughout history. Grounded in a deep educational foundation, Gillespie’s art reveals a profound understanding of humanity, identity, and cultural memory.
Gillespie’s “Joy” & “Love” series expands upon his interests in humanity and existence while earlier works such as the “Migration and Temporary Freedom” series illuminate untold stories of struggle, triumph, and resilience within the Black community. Imbued with radiant blues and deep purples, each painting in the series meditates upon how love, intimacy, and joy manifest within a wide variety of familiar contexts. The scenes reveal how ordinary environments can foster community, memory, and connection.
