I have the distinct pleasure of welcoming assemblage artist Kurt Reynolds to the gallery. Prior to moving to his Provincetown studio, Kurt worked in the field of human services which has informed and guided his creative process and the content of his work.
Kurt has a reverence for found and acquired objects which are the language of his assemblages. His initial encounter with a broken cup, a discarded keepsake, a toy soldier, marks the beginning of a work.
KURT REYNOLDS
“History Lesson” 14″x25″x5″
His studio is a repository of objects, some of which have lost favor or purpose. Each object, like a single bead separated from a necklace, becomes a pearl in the visual narrative of the pieces he creates. Embedded in his Assemblages are themes relating to the ocean, the fragility of peoples lives, and political issues of the past and present.
“Carrying Neptune” 22″x33″x8″
“During the past few years, I had been exploring the nautical past — the maritime history and industry of Provincetown. I have incorporated antique and vintage sailcloth, hand fashioned fishing line and netting, wood of various types and age, pegs, and parts from deconstructed musical instruments, together with other objects and memorabilia.”
