The Rice Polak Gallery is excited to announce our second feature exhibition of the 2022 season – we will be exhibiting the work of William Ciccariello, Nick Patten, Ruth Williams & Robin Winfield.
The show previews on – Thursday July 21 and runs through Wednesday August 3rd. The Opening Reception is on Thursday July 21st beginning at 7pm.
William Ciccariello “Time and Space”
William Ciccariello’s work is less about the application of paint on surface than about how paint can be used to create form and capture light. His intricate compositions combine elements of nature with ingeniously positioned and balanced objects, an apt reflection on the precariousness of our carefully-juggled, modern lives. His newest series of paintings depict the structures and ruins of contemporary Chicago and ancient Pompeii. They focus on the space, while referencing the distance in time from each other, relating in this way as a reflection on the spaces that we, and time, have created.
Nick Patten “New Interiors”
Nick Patten is often described as an American Vermeer bringing beauty and mystique to everyday scenes. His subjects are simple and his vision profound. Patten invites us to fall in love with light again. He creates paintings that glow with angled, reflected, curtain-diffused light. His work continues to explore mood and the elements of light and dark as they are seen in interior oil paintings and a few new surprises!
Ruth Williams “Looking Up”
Ruth Williams is a landscape painter based in New York and North Truro. In her newest work, Williams reflects on our current turbulent times, noting that “it is the sky and its ever-changing grounding beauty that I look up to for hope, solace, clarity, direction, and promise. My greatest talent has always been my intuition. It has guided me through my personal and professional life. It continues to do so in my artwork.” Drawn to the landscape and colors that the sea and sand provides, Ruth’s paintings often evolve from the emotions that they evoke.
Robin Winfield “Travels In Color”
Robin Winfield is a photographer and painter, who works to document scenes from her travels. In her current series, Winfield continues her exploration of intriguing architecture and colors, this time from Old San Juan, PR. The medley of architectural styles, together with brilliant color create a snapshot of the beautiful historical Caribbean island embellished with Winfield’s surreal dreamscapes.
