Welcome to Rice Polak’s newest artist: Craig Mooney! Craig is an oil painter known for his dramatic figures, cityscapes, skies and seascapes conjuring up a cinematic sense of mystery, His paintings are expansive and expressive. He incorporates a myriad of abstract qualities throughout his work and his paintings appear to be capturing a moment suspended in time.

CRAIG MOONEY

Born and raised in the heart of midtown Manhattan, Mooney’s roots in art go back to his youth. His father, an amateur artist, taught him how to create oil paintings from discarded art supplies found on city streets. To Craig he city was an endless source of inspiration and he regards this early exposure as the truest form of training he had ever received.
In his figurative work, Mooney romanticizes his subjects and presents them in an atmospheric lens that is best described as dreamlike. He works in moody tones with sweeping brush strokes.
For the past decade Craig has made annual summer trips to the Cape and Islands, where he became quickly enamored by the endlessly affecting beauty of the open skies and sea. “The beauty in this area is such an enormous source of inspiration for me,” Craig says. “I’ve found myself pulled more and more towards the coast.”

The gallery is now officially open for the 2022 season in Provincetown as well as online where you can now purchase work directly from our website and of course by appointment for private viewings.
