ALIZA AUGUSTINE
PHOTOGRAPHY

ALIZA AUGUSTINE’s current work is a series of large photographs. Using miniature dolls, and sets placed on fairy tale back drops, she creates narratives which are drawn on personal history and social/political commentary. The contradiction of good and evil inherent in fairy tales make a perfect backdrop for the narratives that are not what they seem at first glance. Augustine attempts to create a dichotomy between the playfulness of the sets that she creates and the reality of what is occurring in the pictures. The photographs refer to memories and stories of childhood and adolescent experiences from an adult point of view and adulthood from a child’s point of view. These unique Duraflex prints are mounted under plexiglass and have the lush feelings of paintings.
