Shaun MacDavid continues a career as one of New England's rising artists. A gestural painter who displays great authority in her brushwork, MacDavid's work shows the influence of such diverse sources as Debenkorn, Bonard and Matisse. Parallels to the last are most evident in the artist's recent works in which a brighter palette and an emphasis on decorative patterns immediately call to mind Matisse's brilliant interiors. Her large-scale still lifes raise the homely objects of everyday life to level of high art as surfaces pulsate with masterful brushwork and patterns create a visual feast. MacDavid studied painting and drawing at the Art Institute of Boston as well as the Museum School.
